Around the Corner is a set of pieces which result from a glass blowing workshop which took place at Cencal da Marinha Grande coordinated by Joana Silva and supervised by Claudio Duarte and Pedro Alves. My goal was to explore the distortion of the material thank to the pressure of a corner put in a specific position. The result is a vertical ridge in an organic form generated by blowing the glass.
Then, bases were designed in brass in order to highlight the glass deformation creating a perfect bond between the organic glass forms with strict geometry brass edge. The balance point between the glass part on the metal base create a sense of levitation and lightness of the material.
CENCAL is a professional training center dedicated to the ceramics industry which was created in December, 1981 and located in Caldas da Rainha. In 2011, CENCAL extended its action to the glass sector, by integrating CRISFORM facilities in Marinha Grande. It has since promoted the glass industry activity , by training future glassware, as well as organizing training for designers and artists.
